I am concerned about flaming of an information seeker. Here is someone
gathering information in exactly the right forum , her peers. The peanut
allergy issue is a serious one. It is not unusual for those who have not
had a serious incident in their schools to feel that other parents and
classroom teachers are over reacting. Last week I heard a 3's student
teacher proclaim that when she was a kid everyone ate peanut butter and
there was never a problem. It took a lot for me to inform her in a civil
tone with patience and kindness that there were problems when she was
young but that most of the children with these severe reactions died
before their parents knew the cause. Another issue especially for
specialists is if a class comes to the library without washing up after
lunch and the class with the issue comes in next. I always make sure I
wipe down the keyboards and tables . Another issue is that a child as
young as five may have trouble communicating the begginning of a
reaction. We are on alert to the words I feel kind of funny, I feel
strange or a usually active kid is apart from the group on deck.

I hope tht we continue to support our peers in a gentle manner and are a
forum that people can ask questions and make comments without fear of
retribution.

Let me clarify that I am not trying to be judgmental in this issue, but
only trying to find out how others deal with this. The quote marks in
my original post were meant at true 'quotes.' These are things that
were said to me by others at school and I am only trying to assist by
researching how others deal with this. I know this is an extremely
serious issue but one we have never had to deal with before. Please do
not flame me as I am asking in true sincerity.
