Database Question

I am preparing to teach a class on research skills to my faculty. I'm =
going to spend alot of time on the online databases my district has =
purchased such as Gale Resource Center, EBSCO, SIRS Discoverer, etc. My =
question to the group has to deal with the financial arrangements =
publishers have with these companies that produce the databases. I would =
like to briefly share this information with my staff.

1. Approximately how much money is paid to these journals, magazines to =
allow for the material to be accessed through the database?
2. Does the author receive any compensation from the database company or =
only from the magazine/journal they wrote for?
3. Many of the databases I use with my students have a multimedia =
section for video clips and photographs, how are these purchased for =
inclusion on the databases?
