Dear Maxine, I definitely understand your dilemma and have encountered many of the same issues as you in my middle school library. I am the only LMS with 1100+ students and no aide. I do have some student volunteers that come during two periods in the day. This is what I have developed. During orientations I issue a laminated library pass to each teacher. The pass has their name on it and will admit two students to the library. I stress during orientation that I will not accept a handwritten pass from a student under any circumstances due to the same reasons that you have cited. Once I am finish with each class I distribute passes to the rest of the staff. This includes any out of class teacher including guidance counselors and administrators. I also distribute lunch passes to the teacher who supervises the lunch periods. I allow twelve for each lunch period and leave it to the discretion of the lunch supervisor to distribute them as they see fit. I give them back ! to him at the end of the day for the next day. ----- Original Message -----From: "Frances King" To: Sent: Friday, April 01, 2005 6:31 PMSubject: [LM_NET] MID: Passes to use the library> I currently require students to have a pass before they come to thelibrary.> Students may come during their lunch period or from a class if they havea> pass.> I am trying to monitor the situation but I am encountering some roadblocks> and would like to know how you handle student access.> Some of my problems:> 1.
