We do it the same way. During class time, we only allow students with a
signed pass from a teacher or an administrator into the library. We have
them sign in and out on a clip board, and teachers will stop by to see if
the students they sent actually came here! If they have no assignment, we
send them back. We don't baby sit.

Mine is just the reverse. All middle school passes are issued by the
teacher assigning the work. That way I can check with them as to exactly
what the student was sent for if there is a problem.
