I still buy it, in fact I just ordered a new set of 15, I use it to teach
indexing, note taking, search strategies, etc. Yes these are just very short
lessons, but I feel it is a pretty cheap textbook. My social studies teachers
check out this years and last year's sets and take them to their rooms to have
students do research. They only have 1-2 computers in their rooms not enough for
all kids in the room to get GNP and do some manipulation of statistics. In my last
middle school the math teachers always were checking them out for spreadsheet
statistics and to teach math skills using statistics. It has always been a great
resource to our students. Yes all the facts are on the net, but I can't manipulate
the net as well as I can the paper copy. Even though I have a lot (25+) computers
in our library (800+ students), I can be more on top of the student learning with
the paper copy at the instructional tables.

Sometimes I use it to have races between students to find out who can find quality
information the fastest through the net or with the book.
Just one point of view.

Subject: [LM_NET] REF: Do you still buy and use World Almanac

Dear LM_NET:
I have a 7-12 setting. I have not purchased World Almanac for two years and
have not missed it.
For those of you in the same grade levels:
Do you still buy it?
Do you use it often?

Thanks.
