Hello All, Welcome back to those of you who just attended the ALA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. I know I had a wonderful time seeing many familiar faces, as well as meeting lots of new-to-YALSA people. I hope you had the chance to do the same, and to attend some of our many programs. You can read lots of different points of view of the conference and its programs on the YALSA blog ( http://blogs.ala.org/yalsa.php). In the very near future I will begin the process of appointing people to the YALSA selection committees, e.g. Best Books for Young Adults, Popular Paperbacks, Selected Audiobooks, etc. These committees will begin work in February 2008. After the ALA Midwinter Meeting in January 2008 I will begin appointments to our many process committees (e.g. Teen Read Week, Publishers' Liaison, Professional Development, etc). To be considered for appointment to a committee you must be a YALSA member and have a volunteer form on file. If you think did one but aren't sure, did one last year, or have not yet done one, now is the time to get a nice new form submitted. You can find it here: http://www.ala.org/ala/yalsa/joinus/committeevolunteer.htm . Not sure what your options are for committees? YALSA's webpage has all the information you need: http://www.ala.org/ala/yalsa/aboutyalsab/yalsacommittee.htm I'm very excited about serving as your new Vice-President/President-Elect and welcome this new opportunity to connect with members!
