Wow! The response was speedy and overwhelmingly positive. Librarians in
schools at every level have done this and none of the respondents regret
making the move. The materials (most are overnight check out) are
circulating far better and users comment on the "new" materials. Some
respondents did this as long ago as 7 years, some as recently as 2 weeks
ago. Many kept the encyclopedias and atlases, etc., in a central
location.

I can hardly wait! I weeded like a wild woman a couple of months ago and
we put the reference stickers on. My assistant is going to write the
cost of each book on the inside cover (so users know what they will have
to pay if they lose the book) and we will move them as soon as we can.
Destiny updated all the REF prefix call numbers to overnight check out
in a matter of moments. My colleague at our feeder high school is doing
the same, so kids will know where to find things there also. Cool!!!

My original question:
I am thinking of labeling my reference books and shelving them with the
regular circulating non-fiction. Has anyone tried this? Does it work?
Are there problems or disadvantages?
