We are a college prep all boys high school ( 9-12). Junior and Senior year are almost completely AP classes. - All teachers require some form of note cards in Freshman year while they teach proper note taking, how to use note cards, what should be on them, etc. so that by the end of the year, they are proficient in using them. Then starting with Sophomore year, note cards are required for all papers -and graded as part of the rubrics. Some teachers even require them for larger projects as even the multi-media presentations require a paper to be written giving the background of the research, conclusions, etc. Also, all papers require students to use higher-order thinking skills. Even when they are doing literary criticism of short stories, poetry, drama they are required to use note cards and to synthesize the research they have done.
