Original Post:
Okay, all you elementary people! I had a student that said she read a book in
elementary school a year or two ago, and we can't figure out what it was! She says
a rat and his girlfriend go on a picnic. A storm comes up, the rat gets lost on a
raft and ends up with a toad. The rat and his girlfriend do get back together by
the end and get married. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I am coming up
blank, but she would really like to reread it. Can anyone help with a title?
Thanks in advance...

The overwhelming response says that it is Abel's Island by William Steig. I'll
share that with her. I'm sure she will be very excited! What a great group!
Thanks everyone!
