Thanks for all the great information! Here was my original post:

Hello everyone,
This is my first posting to LM_NET, so I hope I'm doing this right! My
school is interested in Bookflix and I am currently testing it out with
their free trial. My question is directed to anyone that has currently
or previously used Bookflix. What is your opinion of the resource? Would
you recommend it or is there another similar option that is more valuable or
less expensive? I will post a HIT with any responses.
Thanks so much for your time!

Responses:

I'm not familiar with similar programs, but we like Bookflix very much at
our school. Parents and teachers use it a lot. We especially talk it up
before holidays so that students can use it when they're not at school for
a while. It's great for students who don't have someone to read to them
in English. For students who are always drawn to the computer, it's a good
educational alternative to games.

I would not purchase it for 4th graders, but PK-1 it is a great tool. I
am lucky that the public library here in Dallas, TX pays for the
subscription, so as long as you have a library card, you can show it to
as many kids in your school you want! My kids that have had the
privilege of seeing it, just love the program!

This is our first year subscribing to Bookflix. We're enjoying it
very much. Pros: the pairing of fiction & nonfiction is great, the
story selection is good, the interface is easy to use--most kids (and
teachers!) can use it independently after a brief introduction, they
offer free online training in the form of "webinars," it can be used
at school and at home. Many teachers (incl. me) use it as a learning
station and / or a free choice activity. Cons: There's no doubt it's
expensive, and I don't think we would have subscribed without $$ from
our tech department. My impression was that titles won't be added
that often, either.
