Friends- I have a colleague writing a book about a local institution. They are including photographs of their facilities and are planning on featuring the art collection in and around their building. What are the "fair use" guidelines for publishing photographs of art? If it is owned by your institution? Loaned? I'm sensing that the artist might maintain ownership of their work unless publication rights are specifically granted? Or do you gain ownership rights for such reproduction when you purchase artwork? Can anyone help? (And isn't this an interesting question for the day before Thanksgiving? Happy Cranberry-Sauce-Shaped-Like-a-Can Day!) Harry Harry F.
