Happy first day of school to all, and belated wishes to those who started earlier! After years of nagging my classes (K-5 and sometimes middle school) to pick up after themselves before leaving the library, or sometimes giving in and just doing it myself, I've decided to create the role of "Library Helper" this year. Each week, one child (with the help of two assistants) will be responsible for pushing in the chairs, putting away any stray crayons, straightening up the magazine table, etc. I'd like to use a cooler name for this job than "library helper," and I'm sure someone out there has the perfect answer! I'd also love any thoughts on management, duties, pitfalls, etc. from anyone who uses a plan like this. Thanks, and have a great day!
