Dear LM_NET members
All, but especially those in Connecticut, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas,
 Maryland,
Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, Rho
 de
Island, South Carolina, Utah, and Vermont

It is time to call on your Senators who are on the Education, Arts, and Hum
 anities
subcommittee to encourage them to add the language of the Simon Bill (S 266) to
 S 1513, the
reauthorization of ESEA.

It is time for all to send a letter or call on your Senator. Lillian Gerha
 rdt has given
permission to send a copy of the Loertscher article in the May, 1993 School Libr
 ary Journal with
your letter to your Senator, or to hand to your Senator when you go to the offic
 e. This article
synthesizes the Lance study and Krashen's Power of Reading. It is an excellent
 beginning to
your explanation of the differences school library media centers make in the liv
 es of your
nation's youth.
