Target>6th grade in Middle School

I need research or anecdotal information about having 6th grade in Middle
School with grades 7 and 8.  Our 6th grade is currently in elementary
school.  Plans are to move it to our middle school, which is now grades 7
and 8.  A group of parents is opposing this.  By Monday I am supposed to
have research and information supporting the concept.  However, I will be
glad to get information both pro and con.  I am personally neutral about
this issue at the present time.  I do know that some librarians in these
schnools have had a problem with parents who don't think that 6th grades
should be exposed to the same books as the worldly 7th and 8th graders.
I need this info ASAP.
