In response to Karen Carpenter's request for suggestons on handling study hall students in the library media center, I will tell you what worked for me when I found myself with the same problem. Fortunately, my school works on a required hall pass policy. When we had study halls, the subject teacher would issue a library pass to be used during the student's study hall period. These were not issued unless the student had an library assignment or a legitimate reason to come to the library. The student then reported to the study hall where the study hall teacher signed the pass also before the student reported to the library. The passes were given to us when the student entered the library. If the student misbehaved, the subject teacher was notified. Oh yes, we also limited the number of days in a row that the student could come during study hall. The study hall teacher was asked to monitor this. A note in the roll book worked well. The study hall teachers could not issue the pass. This required the students to plan ahead. Junior high students need this experience. Hope this helps.
