Our school district is grppling with this very issue, now that we have
some technology money to spend on hardware.  Should we get the 575's,
with internal CD ROM drive, and no caddies, or should we go with 475's or
550's, and buy external drives WITH caddies?

The consensus so far is that external drives with caddies is the safest
way to go.  We've see 6-slot CD drives that lock so that no one can eject
the CD's, which would be added protection.
