Required reading

The traditional academies in the system are identifying a book for each
grade level that is required reading and which there will be extensive study
regarding the book, as well as comparision to versions in other formats.  We
have a basic list and are aware of challenged books, but I wondered if there
were any that had been identified by other systems, that have "Passed the
test of time", or were ones to avoid.  Any suggestions?.
