Rainforest percentage

Hi.

I had a teacher come in today and ask what PERCENTAGE of the earth's surface
is covered by rainforest.  We checked all the resources we have, print and
non-print, and couldn't get the answer.  The closest we came was a map
showing the percent of the Brazilian rainforest lost to deforestation.

Can anyone tell us what percentage of the earth's surface is covered by
rainforests?
