Qualifications: New York State teacher certification; a Master's degree
in Library Media with coursework and experience in information
technology, computer literacy, telecommunications and systems management.

Madison-Oneida BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services)
Regional Information Center has the responsibility for the computing and
information needs of four upstate New York counties.  The Library
Automation Specialist will be a member of the Library Automation Service
(LAS) and will team with the Instructional Computing team and the School
Library Systems (SLS).  Currently the LAS has 60 schools in the
automation process.  This process includes: retrospective conversion,
the Mandarin Library Management software, local and wide area
networking, CD-Rom networking and Internet connections.

Responsibilities:

1. Provide leadership, instruction and consulting assistance in the use
of information technology in the school library.

2. Support librarians in the automation process and the integration of
the new information technology into the curriculum.

3. Maintain the regional union catalog at a central location.

4. Train library personnel in the use of the Mandarin Library Management softwar
 e.

5. Present workshops on information technology to school librarians,
administrators and school board members.

6. Develop standard formats and procedures for the library automation service.

7. Coordinate electronic interlibrary loan activities among automated libraries.

8. Supervise the activities of the Library Automation Service personnel.

9. Participate in the Library Automation Council as a staff member
presenting information on the Library Automation Service and its progress.

10. Assist in developing standards for library automation especially
library management software and appropriate reference databases.
