Subject: TARGET> Lease or purchase computers?

I am faced with upgrading my computer equipment in the next few years. My
state of the art library is so antiquated. Has any school out there leased
computer equipment instead of purchasing it so they can upgrade easier? Is
this cost effective?

Fred, the cost of equipment leasing I am afraid in most cases is too exorbident
for most districts to afford. (You might want to check with your dist. office as
rates vary from state to state) leasing co. get anywhere from 25 to 38% APR !
We figure the average business life of a computer system at 3 years and here in
Calif. education resources being so poor whe have designed for 5 years. I
suggest to my users to buy bigger higher quality and keep for longer time. In a
3 year lease payoff you will have spent enough in the lease to purchase a new
system! We depend very heavily on donations from local groups and plan our
system for staged expansion paying in a little each year to add on to systems.
