PermaBound cataloging

We are having a problem with electronic cataloging that we are getting
with our PermaBound books.  For every unpaged title, in the collation
field there are curly brackets {} around the paging.  Curly brackets
aren't AACR2 appropriate, so we have been round and round with PermaBound
about this.  PermaBound is the ONLY vendor showing curly brackets, and
they assure us we are the only customer getting curly brackets.  We have
checked the disk directly and find the curly brackets in the data, so we
are certain our automation software isn't producing these symbols.  Is
anyone else getting curly brackets from PermaBound (or any other vendor)?
What have you done to remedy the problem?
