At the ALA 1994 Annual Conference in Miami, the Preservation of
Library Materials Section (PLMS) and the Library Instruction
Roundtable (LIRT) are cosponsoring a program "Selling
Preservation: What to Say to the Customer." The program will be
on Monday, June 27 from 2-5:00 pm. The program will offer
practical solutions for educating library customers in the proper
care and handling of library materials in public, school,
academic, and special libraries.

As part of the program there will be an exhibit area with samples
of materials used to promote preservation awareness to library
users. These materials will include posters, bookmarks,
handouts, and teaching tools. The program committee would
appreciate contributions of preservation education materials that
libraries have developed or purchased to include in the program
exhibit area. Purchasing and cost information for displayed
items will be included on a program information sheet. Materials
not for sale will be noted as well. Your sample materials do not
need to be fancy or professionally designed. Effective
communication of preservation issues and a cross-section of ideas
from all types of libraries is desired.

Based on the program an ALA publication is being planned.
Included in the publication will be samples of the exhibit
materials and information about availability and purchase. A
copy of all exhibit materials will be sent to LOEX in Ypsilanti,
Michigan which serves as a clearinghouse for library instruction
materials.

In order to ensure that correct information is included about
materials you contribute, please fill out the form attached
below, and return it by MAY 15 with TWO copies of your materials to:

     Jill Rawnsley, Program Exhibit Coordinator
Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts
     264 South 23rd Street
     Philadelphia, PA 19103

Contribution of your educational materials will serve to enrich
the program and publication. The committee appreciates the extra
effort you have taken and hopes that you or one of your staff
will be able to attend what promises to be an exciting and
informative ALA program. If you have any questions please
contact Jill Rawnsley (215/545-0613, FAX: 215/735-9313, Email:
ccaha@shrsys.hslc.org) or the program cochairs:
