ESEA Reauthorization

I just received a call from the Washington ALA office asking help from all of
us concerning the reauthorization of the ESEA bill.  The bill is currently in
the committee process, and it will come up for a committee vote on Tuesday, May
17th.  Make a telephone call to the local office of your senator, and ask that
your senator call Senator Pell in support of the compromise offered by Senator
Simon.  The compromise offered is that the Elementary and Secondary Library
Media Act would be attached to the technology portion of the bill, and ALA
feels that this is a better place because it would automatically get a
percentage of the funding.  As a separate bill, it would have categorical
funding and that probably would not pass.
