Censorship - AP English

I hope some LM_NETers can help our AP ENGLISH teacher.  As part of this
college-credit course she assigned Toni Morrison's SONG OF SOLOMON.  A
parent is challenging this assignment because of explicit language used in
the novel.
Has any one had this work challenged?  Can anyone assist in her defense?
The challenge goes to the school board soon, I would appreciate any quick
responses containing supportive material.
