In regard to my previous post about administrators who see the Internet as a substitute for locally held resources, I received the note below. I do want to make it clear that I have currently 23 computers with Internet access (we have our own node) and will have more shortly (and that is way more computers than what is available as OPAC stations).. The issue still remains, however, that navigating the Internet is neither transparent nor *fast* compared to an electronic index, e.g., in one's own media center. -------------snip-------------------------------------------------- HOw many phone lines do you have? I only have one for theinternet so there is no chance that we can do without our CD-ROM stations. Internet does not end our need for other types of resources. Also right now the internet is not organized well. The information is there but it is difficult to find. We are lacking a good index so we know what is there. It is just one more resource not the only resource. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ***************************************************************************** Floyd Pentlin, Library Media Specialist / Lee's Summit High School, Div. 2 400 Blue Parkway / Lee's Summit, MO 64063 / VOICE: 816-251-3418 FAX: 816-251-3419 / E-MAIL: fpentlin@hobbs.leesummit.k12.mo.us "Always remember that you're unique, just like everyone else." ***************************************************************************** \
