comments on teaching certification as requirement for library certification:

I am certified to teach K-8th grade and have a MLS, certified as a
library media specialist. My education background has proved invaluable
to me as an elementary librarian and given the choice, with the
experience, I would take the same route again. We have no curriculum
specialist in our school, nor have I worked in a school with a curriculum
specialist. Because of my background, opportunities to influence
teachers have been endless, as well allowed me to serve at the district
level on curriculum committees.
Being one of the most qualified educators in my building, the
district does not recognize the value of librarians with merit pay
(comparable to career ladder), nor protects the integrity of the media
center.
