From: MMICZAN@OCMVM.CNYRIC.ORG Hello, I can remember the day as if it were yesterday. I was in my third year of teaching at Boyd School. I was teaching second grade. It was afternoon and we were doing math. The voice of the secretary came over the PA system. She told us that the President had been shot and then she let us hear a radio broadcast of the latest news. The children were very upset. We talked about why anyone would do such a thing. One of the children said,"If people did not like him they could have voted against him when the next election came." We left school that day feeling very sad. For the whole weekend we sat glued to the television set. It was as if a friend had died. There was a feeling of personal loss. I guess it was because he was so young and with all the media coverage of his family they were people we could relate to. It was a very sad time. We were a very idealistic generation. This event changed us. Things were never the same again. Marie Miczan MMICZAN@OVMVM.CNYRIC.ORG Library Media Specialist Solvay Elementary School 701 Woods Road Solvay, NY 13209
