Linda,

My school has an annual canned goods drive in November of each year.  The
cans go to a local charity group.  During the week when the cans are
collected, we accept one can for each fine a students has (fines on two
books can be paid with two cans, etc.).  This helps us get overdue books
and fines cleared while it also helps the food drive.
