My school is having a BIG problem with student plagiarism at the
present time. The students are taught what constitutes plagiarism
and how to properly document sources. Unfortunately, most students
still copy directly from sources and then try to cover themselves
by making up fictitious references.

At present, there is no written school or departmental policy
concerning plagiarism and its consequences. As a result, teachers
are receiving criticism for giving grades of 0s or Fs to students
they have found plagiarizing. Do other schools have written
policies? If so, what's in them? How do other schools handle
this? What has the media specialist's role, if any, been in
educating students about plagiarism or in searching for plagiarized
material?

Please send responses directly to me and I will post the results.

Your help is appreciated.
