I am a media specialist for a middle school (grade s 6 thru 8)
I don't believe The Giver is at all appropriate for elementary school students.
This is definitely a young adult piece. I think younger children will not be
able to appreciate the "Big Brother Is Watching" piece that makes this plot nor
will they pick up on so many other themes that make The Giver so thought
provoking.
