I did not post this as a target, but many of you asked me to report any info I got to the whole group. I had asked if anyone knew of a recommended number of students per work station and also for the source of the recommendation if possible. Most responses were from people who remembered a number but not the source. The following numbers were recommended. 1 station per 200 students 1 station per 150 students 1 station per 100 students 1 station per 75 students 1 station per 50 students Mary Woodard from Mesquite, TX mentioned the following: In their publication "The Library Media Center: A Force for Student Excellence", the Texas Education Agency has these guidelines: Level 1-Minimum: one computer for student use, one for LMC management Level 2-Average: ten computers for student use, three for LMC management Level 3-Exemplary: 30 computers for student use, five for LMC management I called my Follett representative who said that Follett recommended one catalog workstation per 250 students, but she felt with the use of workstations for other reference work besides just the catalog, that student number should be lower. She is currently doing a proposal for a school in New York and plans on recommending one workstation per 150 students. If you read my first posting, you may recall that I said my principal had pulled one of my catalog workstations to put in a classroom. The rest of the story is - after I left him a rather irate note, the principal got back to me to explain his actions. He wanted to give me a different workstation - an upgrade!
