Dear Mary, North East ISD in San Antonio Tx. and Region 20 are collaboration on a campaign to promote the 75th anniversary of Children's Book Week, Nov. 14-20, 1994, with the theme "Read Across America." Our goal is to involve San Antonio and South Texas (and across the country) area students in reading for recreation rather than watching television. To accomplish this, we are asking you to join us in a region wide READ IN on the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 15. To show the results of this effort we will tabulate the minutes/hours that sudents read on Tuesday. A region wide total will be announced at the end of the week. If you would like to participate and endorse this effort, please contact me or one of the people listed below ASAP. We will forward a packet of materials to ou no later than Friday, October 7. If you are out of the Region 20 area, please send a self-addressed manilla envelope. Three stamps should do it. Many elementary schools are doing things all week in addition to the counting of reading min. Our school will have a Reading Camp In in which the students bring pillows or blankets and everyone curls up and reads at school. We will have guest readers and readers from the High school near by. The Mayor of San Antonio will sign a document recognizing this special event. I hope this reaches many libraries and you will participate in our READ ACROSS AMERICA.
