TECH: Disk/tape storage

Our personal safe deposit box is in one of those non-bank facilities
where you enter by using a card with a magnetic stripe to unlock a series
of doors (although the attendant can open them for you if he trusts you!)

My question concerns the feasibility of storing computer disks or tapes
there.  Will the info on them be damaged passing through the entrances?
I am afraid to try without advice from some knowledgeable person!   TIA
