For what it's worth, I have used Iomega 10Mb and 20 Mb media (the *old* 8" media) since 1983. Some of the disks lasted over 5 years of *constant* use. I wouldn't recommed that as usual, but I wanted to see how long the media would last. (Yes, I did have backups on newer disks) The newer Zip drive cartridges are build even better, and should give excellent service. Iomega stuff is well built, and they stand behind their products. I wouldn't worry about the life span of the media unless it was physically abused. The drives purchased in 1983 were still going strong in 1993 when I last saw them, and had never been repaired or serviced beyond new air filters.
