We are a high school in the southern part of the Canadian province of Ontario. We offer grades 9 to 13 to about 600 pupils. We are quite involved as a school and as a library with technology. We are undertaking a new planning process re: Technology and at a recent meeting the suggestion was made to seek some advice and experiences from net members on topics that we have under discussion. First a little background. The school is networked using Novell 2.15. The library has a Follett Circ/Cat system and a 7 drive CD ROM Tower running on the school network. This is quite slow and heavily used. Would you share with us your wisdom etc. on three issues. 1. Employing large hard drives on which CD's are loaded and which run on a network. 2. Experiences and in particular costs involved in wiring a school with fibre optic cable. 3. Satisfaction and problems including hardware considerations connected with networking multimedia CD's via a tower. We would welcome all information, technnical and otherwise. Please communicate directly with us at Lord Dorchester.
