"Eunuch" Computers?

We are having a problem in our Macintosh lab in our library media center
- MISSING MOUSE BALLS!  Because we are a very active LMC, used by many
students (population 900), it is almost impossible to monitor use on a
continuous basis (of course, we are short-staffed...) Has anyone out
there come up with a solution to this problem? Those balls are VERY
expensive to replace!
