Walk Two Moons--Did you like it?

I just read Sharon Creech's _Walk Two Moons_ which just won the
Newbery Award.  I'm curious about the silence on this listserv about
this title.  Far different from the great discussions we've had about
last year's winner, _the Giver_.

Have you read this book?  Did you like it?  Do you think your students
will like it?  Did you even buy it for your library before it won
the award?

I found the first half very slow going and made myself stick with it.
After all, you have to read the Newbery book, right?  The ending is
dynamite, but I won't go into detail for fear of spoiling it for those who
want to read it.  I'm a little puzzled about this title winning the
award.  What do you think?
