Greetings, I have found some of the discussion on the SI Swimsuit issue extremely disturbing. I shudder at the fact that there are still librarians who are self censors. Such people, in my opinion, are a detriment to the profession. If we all took a more healthy, mature attitude to such materials, we whould not have a problem or a need for this discussion. This material is not pornography. It might be degrading to women, but that is where the line should be drawn. Perhaps we should focus our attention on the women who subject themselves to this degradation by posing for such publishing ventures. If any one is a member of an interlibrary loan system, do we not have an obligation to maintain our collections in their entirety? I have never had a problem with a SI Swimsuit issue. I have never removed it from the collection. What I have done is stamp the library stamp all over the issue. Students want to illegally withdrawl this issue to decorate lockers, rooms, notebooks, etc. No one wants to decorate with multiple stamps on each body.
