5th gr. internet projects

A 5th grade teacher is writing a grant for next year, and wants
to start using internet with his kids.  He is asking for money
to support telecommunications, along with some other
technology.  Does anyone know of any good internet projects
that have been done that he could site in his proposal?  He is
particularly looking for ideas for constellations, star
mapping, ecology, weather and storms, sports statistics,
geometry, measurement, Revolutionary and Civil wars, and
westward expansion.
