AN INVITATION TO ATTEND AN OPEN HOUSE FOR EDUCATORS at the 26th Lunar and Planetary Science Conference PLANETARY SCIENCE EDUCATION ACTIVITIES AND TECHNOLOGY Tuesday, March 14, AND Thursday, March 16, 1995 Open House between 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. Lunar and Planetary Institute 3600 Bay Area Boulevard Houston TX 77058-1113 Try out hands-on activities with scientists! Take home handouts and samples! Sample new software and CD-ROMs! Meet and talk with scientists informally! The Lunar and Planetary Institute and the NASA Johnson Space Center invite educators to attend a special open house exhibit on education at the 26th Lunar and Planetary Science Conference. Titled "Planetary Science Educational Activities and Technology," the open house will feature displays, demonstrations, and exhibits of the many educational outreach projects developed by members of the planetary science community across the country and around the world. The session will be held in the Center for Information and Research Services of the Lunar and Planetary Institute on Tuesday, March 14, and again on Thursday, March 16, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Scientists who have developed these projects will be on hand to discuss them with attendees. The exhibits will include: o "The Arizona Mars K-12 Education Program: Outreach for Mars Global Surveyor, Mars Pathfinder, and Other Missions" o "Planetary Science Education: The SJI Program" o "Adventures in Space and Atmospheric Science" o "Project Artist: Integrating Astronomy and Planetary Sciences into the Elementary and Middle School Curriculum" o "TekLab: Excitement in the Elementary School" o "Space Science Education Program for K-5 Students" o "World-Wide-Web Tools for Locating Planetary Images" o "The Internet as a Medium for Public Debate on the Issue of Returning to the Moon" o "Space Science Education Using the World Wide Web" o "Development and Use of Multimedia Material in Planetary Science" o "The Use of Image Processing in the Classroom" o "Planetary Rover Unit: A Hands-on Educational Facility to Motivate K-12 Students Towards Excellence in Science and Mathematics" o "The Venus Hypermap: Hypermedia Education and Publication Via the World-Wide Web" A booklet of short descriptions of the programs on display will be available free to attendees. PARK-AND-RIDE Parking spaces at the Lunar and Planetary Institute will be in short supply because the education open house will be held in parallel with regular technical poster sessions of the Conference. We recommend that educators use the park-and-ride shuttles from University of Houston- Clear Lake Student Parking Lot D (call 713-486-2182 for maps). These shuttles will run continuously from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. The last shuttle will depart LPI at 10:00 p.m. INFORMATION For further information, please phone 713-486-2182.
