I was a complete believer in an activity centered library where the noise level was geared to the activity. This worked fine at the elementary school level. After 9 years at the middle school level, I have found it's very difficult to lower the noise level when needed if students have been allowed to socialize in the media center. It can be total chaos. Therefore, even though I don't like to be the person telling them to keep the noise level down, I do really believe that it's a necessary key to keeping middle schoolers constructive and allowing as full a use of the media center as possible. * Linda Dudick Media Specialist * * Johnson Park Middle School ldudick@freenet.columbus.oh.us * * 1130 S.
