Fellow LM_Netters, With the appearance of another question about mouse balls, I thought I'd pass on a tip I got from a student intern working here last quarter. If you have a persistent problem with disappearing mouse balls and are willing to invest a "little" time (or better yet, have a volunteer who can help some weekend), here is his sure-fire way of securing those little devils so no one will bother them again! (And we can attest to that!) Countersink a very small screw in the ring on the bottom of your mouse. Use the following items (usually not something YOU would have on hand unless you are a MODEL TRAIN ENTHUSIAST!): 0-80 flat-head machine screw 3/16" long #55 drill bit 0-80 tap (You may need a pin vise for the drill & tap to steady it.) If you have a lot of computers (as at a high school), it's probably worth your while to invest in these parts available at most hobby or model train shops then just start doing a few at a time when the mood strikes. Or line up your local Model Train Assoc. to help out! Special thanks to Robin Harris for this surefire technique!
