?Recommend a book

One of my English teachers surveyed her students at the end of last
year about her class.  One of the criticisms that a few students had
was that the literature they read in class was generally a "downer."
They wanted to read something upbeat or funny.  This is an Honors
class.  Can anyone recommend a title or two for a 9th grade Honors
class that needs their spirits lifted?
