For a new high school that will be opening in the fall of 1995, a library
media specialist position has just been posted.  The school will open
with grades 9-11 (approx. 1000 students) and will be grades 9-12 the next
year.  The school is being built for 1500 students.  Lee's Summit is a
suburban high school in the Kansas City, Missouri area.

VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT:
The library media specialist will be responsible for cooperatively
planning with the building lead library media specialist for the print
and non-print components of a technologically-rich library media program
and to assist in the supervision of the media center support staff, and
volunteers.

Masters Degree with K-12 library certification; expertise in creating
documents in a variety of computer applications on a specific platform;
use of telecommunications as a communications and resource tool;
demonstrated leadership in a building program using above average skills
in communication, curriculum development and teaching strategies; and a
commitment to integrating technology as a tool for student and staff
learning are required.

As the person who will be working with the new LMS, I am also looking for
individuals who have:

+ experience in selecting print and non-print material for the secondary
level

+ experience in working in an environment where multiple activities are
going on simultaneously

+ expertise in creating documents in a variety of computer applications
on multiple platforms

+ demonstrated leadership in professional organizations

+ familiarity with and interest in television production

+ experience in developing multi-media productions

Concurrent with these qualities should be a spirit of adventure and a
creative set of mind that assumes the need to experiment with the
operation of the media center to meet the evolving needs of the patron.
