Travel books list amended

I need to amend my original question:

9th grade Global Studies teacher wants a list of books which are anecdotal in
nature about personal travels in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Something
beyond travel guides for the 9th grade student who wishes to know more about
those areas. An armchair guide, if you will. A 9th grade "Accidental
Tourist".
