One of my teachers is looking for the author and title of the following poem.
We are assuming she has the first part but even this way I could not help
her. I used Granger' index (electronic). We are hoping someone out there
will recognize it. She uses it as part of a package given to her at an
AP conference.
Here is the first stanza (we think)
I wonder whether one expects
Flowing tie or expert sex
Or even absent-mindedness
of poets any longer. Less
Candour than the average,
Less confidence, a ready rage,
Alertness when it comes to beer
An affectation that their ear
For music is a little weak,
These are the attributes we seek;
But surely not the morning train,
The office lunch, the look of pain
Down the blotched suburban grass,
Not the weekly trance at Mass...
Drawing on my sober dress
These, alas, I must confess.
