I agree with Stephen E. Collins comments about the internet abuse and misuse. The answer is not in my opinion making accounts on the internet child proof or overly restrictive. If one my students used foul language in a letter, then I have not done my job. Issues of trust and responsibility have not been developed. All this would leave me with the feeling that the foul language is only the tip of the ice berg. Rather, we must do our job, education. The issue on the internet is not any different than ones of previous technologies, say books. Our job is talk with kids. Explain what is out there on the internet and why somethings are inappropriate. Secondly, if you must restrict childrens' ability to go to certain internet addresses, the best way is to block out addresses at the server. That way kids can still access the net for the 99% of great information out there. Bill Wallace Cybrarian Manzano Day School Albuquerque, NM schlmdaysch5@pop.nm.org
