Dear Netters,
 
I am a little bit of a loss.  I am also very familiar with this story having
heard it growing up in England.  To my recollection this story was written by
a woman in India (after all that is where tigers are found, not Africa!) and
so the original characters were not black.  Now if we could only find that
"original" book, we would we out of the woods :)
