My principal informed me today that I must move the audiovisual kits (filmstrips, cassettes, sound filmstrips, etc) out of the small office where they have been stored because he needs the space next year for another purpose. This space is across the hall from the library and presents problems when teachers need to check out materials when I have classes, so I am not concerned about losing it. I would like to weed these outdated materials from my collection since they have rarely been used in the past two years and I hate to use valuable storage space in my library to store them. I am interested in knowing what other librarians have done with this type of material after it is weeded. Can it be given to the teachers who still use filmstrips or does it need to be thrown away? What happens to the kits that aren't selected by teachers for use in their classrooms? Please reply directly to me and I will post a HIT. Madeline L.
