A couple of months ago, I posted the following message: The AASL Research Committee, in conjunction with the AASL Library Statistics Committee, is looking to develop a mechanism to help practicing school library media specialists collect and use statistics to their best advantage. We would very much like your input! What problems have you experienced with the NCES survey forms? What items would you like to see added/removed? How, if at all, do you use those statistics? Are there any statistics you collect at the local level that you find particularly useful? Do you have any general advice (or expertise) that we could pass along? Have you read any good articles, or attended any good workshops, that we ought to check out? Either respond directly to me (easun@fis.utoronto.ca), or to LM_NET if you think discussion might be useful. The nonresponse was overwhelming. Of the few who did respond, no one seemed to know what we meant by "NCES statistics". This, in and of itsef, is very telling! The answer to this question will be sent under separate cover. For now, let's concentrate on a revised version of the second question: do you yourself use statistics? If so, how? If not, why not? Post to LM_NET, or to me directly.
